Note 1 | Plantin must have printed in 1568 a Diurnale S. Crucis of which no copy is known, but which is often mentioned in his correspondence, particularly with Cardinal Granvelle. |
Note 2 | On 17 March 1568 Plantin tells Granvelle, that, after his return from the Fairs of Frankfurt, he intends to reprint the 'Diurnal de Saincte Croix' (Suppi. Corr., no. 56; cf. also no. 59, page 79: 27 April 1568). (Ibidem, no. 70; cf. also no. 72: 21 August 1568). By then, however, Plantin had already practically finished the printing, as in that month he tells an unknown correspondent: 'J'auray achevé aussi le Diurnale, de la correction d'Espagne, que m'a baillé ici de Portonariis en-32, dedans 15 jours' (Corr., I, no. 143). The correspondence between printer and cardinal on this particular Diurnale ends with a letter by Plantin of 14 August 1568 stating that he finished the 'Diurnale de Saincte Croix' (Corr., I, no. 152). |
