Note 1 Metrical versions of all the 150 Psalms, each preceded by a summary, and followed by a 'trenodia' on the death of Saulus and Jonathan. The Psalm-versions of Petrus Nannius, included in the earlier publications of Latomus's Psalmi (see preceding no.), have not been reproduced.
Note 2 On 28 June 1586 Plantin mailed to J. Latomus two 'tuorum Psalmorum exemplaria', probably two copies of the 1572-publication (see preceding no.), affirming at the same time that he was willing to print the new work proposed by the scholar after it would have been approved by Henricus Cuyckius (Corr., VII, no. 1114). On 11 August 1586 the typographer wrote to Cuyckius that he had received this new work, the 'Psalterium Davidicum a se [Latomo] in carmen redactum', and that he has the intention to print it as quickly as possible (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1128). A similar letter was mailed the same day to the author (Ibidem, no. 1129).
Note 3 On 13 September 1586 Plantin assures Latomus that he started printing immediately after having received the manuscript (Ibidem, no. 1134). The title-page has the year 1587, but the publication was actually finished in October 1586: on the 17th of that month Plantin sent Latomus 25 copies. The typographer had in the meantime received a letter from the author complaining about the many errors left in the edition. He has asked his proof-readers for explanations; they replied that as for the 'diphtongi', about which Latomus was especially unhappy, they had followed, as was customary in the Plantin Press, the orthographic system of Aldus, which indeed was different from the one commonly used ('Ride vero paulisper interea acceptis litteris tuis objurgavi meos correctores quod illos praeterierint tot errata. Illi vero ut sunt animosi tacendo errata omnia cum ipso exemplari at mihi hoc scriptum attulerunt probaruntque ab ipsius collatione deque diphtongorum erratis responderunt se mora nostra typographiae sequitos esse orthographiam aldinam quae in nonnullis discrepai a vulgo' (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1157).
Note 4 Listed in M 296, folio 14v (Psalterium carmine p[er] Jac. Latomum, f[euilles] -, [price:] stuivers 6), and M 321 (sub 1586).
