Note 1 | Collection of poems by two authors, the first being already dead at that moment, edited by Guilielmus Mennens (Antwerp, 1525 — 28 December 1608; physician; cf. Biographie Nationale [de Belgique], 14, 1897, Columns 363-364): a) Poems by Adrianus Scorelius, which Mennens got through Nicolaus Grudius: Elegiarum libri II (pages 9-29); Eclogarum liber I (pages 30-49); Calumniae prosopographia (pages 49-54); Epigrammatum liber I (pages 55-69). Detailed description in BB, V, pages 117-118; b) Two poems by Cornelius Valerius, introduced on page 71: 1⁰) Brevis narratio eorum quae nuper in adventum Caroli V Caes. Augusti a senatu populoque Ultraiectino apparata sunt, Anno restitutae Salutis 1540. Carmine έξηγητικῷ exposita a Cornelio Valerio Ultraiectino. Ad doctissimum virum Nicolaum Nicolaium Grudium, Sacrae Caesaris Maiestatis consiliarum equitumque summi ordinis Velleris aurei scribam; 2⁰) Eiusdem Cornelii Valerii gratulatio de novo Caesaris adventu, equitumque summi ordinis Velleris aurei, pompaque sollemni ducta anno 1546. luce Ianuarii 2. calculo Romano. Ad eiusdem Nicolai fratrem pari eruditione praestantem virum D. Adrianum Marium Nicolaium, Gelriae cancellarium prudentissimum. The first poem (pages 72-81) is thus the description of the solemn entry of Charles V in Utrecht, August 1540 (in fact a reprint, somewhat modified and enlarged, of the description printed in Utrecht, Herman van Borculo, 1540); the second (pages 82-88) an eulogy on the visit of Charles V to Utrecht where he presided the Chapter of the Order of the Golden Fleece, which opened on 2 January 1546. Both poems described in detail in BB, V, pages 118-119. |
