Note 1 | Description in Spanish of the siege and taking of the City of Antwerp by the armies of Philip II under the command of Alexander Farnese, Duke of Parma, 1584-85. |
Note 2 | The work had already been published at Saragossa-Milan by Pacificio Poncio in 1587 (cf. Palau y Dulcet, loc. cit.). It is not clear if Plantin copied this edition or had his publication printed from a manuscript text forwarded by a Spanish personality. Anyway, it may be assumed that the typographer was ordered by some authority (or received a 'suggestion') to print it. |
