Note 1 | From May until 13 November 1579 were held at Cologne peace-negotiations between representatives of King Philip II and the States-General, in presence of delegates of the Emperor and of German personalities (see no. cp010215). This pamphlet contains documents referring to the negotiations: pages [3-8]: Letter of the delegates of the Emperor to the States-General assembled at Antwerp (Cologne, 5 August 1579); [9-11]: Letter of the Duke of Terra-Nova to the States-General (Cologne, 5 August 1579; in French); [12-23]: Articles of the peace-treaty drafted by the delegates of the Emperor. The other documents referred to in the title-page were in fact printed in a volume which received a separate title-page and pagination (see following no.). |
Note 2 | A Dutch and a French translation (having the two parts in one volume) were also published: see nos. cp010138 and cp012002. |
Note 3 | This Latin edition of the first part is listed in M 296, folio 10v (L[itte] rae Principum electorum de -, 4⁰, f[euilles] -, [price:] stuivers -). The format is in fact in 8⁰ but very likely printed in imposition by half-scheet. |
