Note 1 | Contains Chrysopoeiae libri III, a moral-philosophical treatise on gold and goldmaking in the form of a poem, and Geronticon liber I (dedicated to Petrus Lipomanus), a similar moral-philosophical treatise on old age in the form of a poem. |
Note 2 | The Chrysopoeiae… was first printed in Venice, 1505. Both the Chrysopoeiae…and the Geronticon were reproduced in the edition of Simon Luerensis, Venice, 1515, and re-issued by Joannes Frobenius, Basel, 1518. A new edition appeared in Strasbourg, 1565, but very likely Plantin, for his publication, used the 1518 Basel-edition, as can be deduced from the reproduction of the 1518-foreword by Frobenius. |
Note 3 | In his note to the reader Plantin is not very clear on the reasons which induced him to re-issue these not very important humanistic treatises from the beginning of the 16th century. |
Note 4 | Listed in M 164, folio 1 verso; M 296, folio 1 recto (Aurelii Augurelli Joannis Chrysopeiae lib. tres, 8⁰, a⁰ 82, f[euilles] 6½, [price:] stuivers 2), and M 321 (under 1582). |
