Note 1 The life of Jesus Christ in a Latin poem.
Note 2 In the dedicatory to Joannes Andreas Balenus, headmaster of the Grammar School in Diest, Lumnius tells that some ten years ago, when Nicolaus Eschius was in charge of the Diest Grammar School, he started, inspired by Mattheus the Evangelist, Juvencus, Sedulius and others, to write a 'heroicus carmen'. He continued till chapter 10. Then, for a reason he ignores himself, he jumped to chapter 24 and persevered till the end. The finishing touch was not given. Now, after all these years, having had in hand the grammar elaborated by Balenus, edited by Albertus Herlemannus, and published by Plantin (see no. cp012913), he started thinking if, notwithstanding his many obligations, he could not write something for the youth of Diest. He thought of his 'versus Evangelici' of long ago. They were, however, largely destroyed by his own negligence and the devastation of last year (= the Calvinist rampage at Antwerp), only one corrupt sheet having been preserved. So finally he decided to rewrite them. The author explains then in some detail how he proceeded.
Note 3 Listed in M 296, folio 17v (Strena euangelica page J. Fred. Lumnium, Aº -, f[euilles] 2½, [price:] stuivers ½).
