Note 1Second edition, much enlarged. The number of entries has substantially been increased; many more explanations are given, and, eventually, next to German and French, also English, Saxon, Spanish, Italian and Greek equivalents. The bastard-words of French origin are noted at the end in an 'Appendix peregrinarum, absurdarum, adulterinarumque dictionum' (pages 723-765).
Note 2In the foreword to the reader Kilianus explains the general conception of his work.
Note 3A new revised edition was published under the title Etymologicum Teutonicae linguae by the Plantin Press in 1599.
