Note 1 Answer by a partisan of the States-General to a statement made by the Governor-General of the Netherlands, Don Juan (Marche-en-Famenne, 25 January 1578) and published with the title 'Declaration of the intention of Sir Don Juan'.
Note 2 The original 'Answer' was very likely written in Latin. Anyway, a Latin version was published the same year (also without the text of Don Juan's Declaration): see no. cp012149. Don Juan's 'Declaration' itself was originally written and printed in French. A Dutch translation of the 'Answer' also appeared (see nos. 1881-1882).
