Note 1 List of books in which passages had to be 'purged', in the form of a poster (in all probability to be hung in the bookshops).
Note 2 In 1571 an Index expurgatorius detailing the passages to be purged in a great number of works had been published by Plantin (see preceding no.). This short catalogue is to be considered as a warning to booksellers and buyers alike that the books listed are potentially dangerous and figure in the Index expurgatorius, that, consequently, the copies of these publications are to be examined and treated (or had already the offending parts erased and the copy signed) by the 'librorum censores'.
Note 3 Some 250 copies, costing 2 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers, must have been printed to the account of Philip II. See preceding no.
