Note 1Set in nonpareille type.
Note 2Listed in M 296, folio 2v (Biblia Latina in 8⁰ nonpar[eil], a⁰ 1580, f[euilles] 53, [price:] florins Carolus guilders 1 stuivers 2), and M 164, folio 4r. The Biblia Latina minimis characteribus 8⁰ mentioned sub anno 1581 in M 321, can refer to this edition or to the 1582-publication.
Note 3The edition was already finished in 1579: its composing started at the end of April and ended on 20 September 1579 (Arch. 32, folio 281). Plantin, consequently, could send to de Cayas between 28 September and 6 October 1579 some copies (Corr., VI, no. 840), and enumerate it in a letter to Buyssetius, 10 December 1579 (Ibidem, no. 851), among the works issued by his officina in the last two years (Biblia Lovanii collata in 8⁰ binas impress.').
Note 4Regarding the promised Variae lectiones (cf. no. cp013332), in the 'Quid in hac Bibliorum editione sit praestitum' a small paragraph is added to the effect that Plantin didn't forget his promise but had to postpone its realization ('Priori editione hoc idem polliciti, prae operis difficultate promisso stare haud potuimus: iam, cum, Dei auxilio, parata habeamus; sua Lector expectatione, Deo Plantini conatibus adspirante, non falletur'). In fact, that same year he published as a separate edition the Notationes in Sacra Biblia of F. Lucas (see no. cp013413), but they were too large to be inserted in a 'normal' Bible-edition (they were, however, reproduced in the monumental in folio edition of 1583: see no. cp012970. Very likely Plantin had already at his disposal a handy and abridged version of these Lectiones for the New Testament (and would use it in his 1584-edition of the New Testament: see no. cp011562), but not yet for the Old Testament (in fact he never received such an abridged version from Lucas).
