Note 1 Antonius Meyerus was the nephew of the famous historiographer Jacobus Meyerus (1491-1552). He inherited the manuscripts of his uncle and edited in 1561, Antwerp, J. Steelsius, the latter's magnum opus Commentarii sive annales rerum Flandricarum libri XVII. As stated on the title-page the Comites Flandriae is a summary (in verses) of the lengthy work of Jacobus Meyerus. It is followed (folios 29r-31r) by Cameracum, a superficial eulogy of Cambrai, the city in which the author resided at that time.
Note 2 This publication was printed by Plantin for his Antwerp colleague Joannes Steelsius. According to the colophon the printing was finished on 17 January 1566.
Note 3 Mentioned in Arch. 34, folio 37r: among the books earmarked 'Pour envoyer' (to unspecified customer[s] - perhaps the Frankfurt Fair, at a not specified date [1555-1558]) figure 20 'comites Flandriae', worth ¼ stuivers a copy.
Note 4 Not listed in M 296 or M 164.
