Online bibliographical references
Note 1 Collection compiled by Erasmus of apophthegmata or egregie dicta attributed to men and women of Antiquity (1st edited by: Basel, 1531).
Note 2 This Plantin-edition is probably a reprint of the 1558-edition by de Tournes and Gazeau, Lyons (itself a reprint of former editions by S. Gryphius of Lyons).
Note 3 According to the colophon the printing was finished on 6 December 1564.
Note 4 The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 69, specifies: the wages for composing and printing were paid from 18 June till 24 November 1564, and amount to 64 florins Carolus guilders 19 stuivers (including 1 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers 'for les copies [= of the editions used for the reprint]' and 6 florins Carolus guilders for 'la table [= the indices forming pages 605-627] à Mattheis Ghisb [recht]'). For the edition 86 reams of paper were used (as each copy contains 33 quires, this means that 1,250 copies were printed), which, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers per ream, came to 104 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers, bringing the overall costs to 169 florins Carolus guilders 3 stuivers This made the cost price per copy 2¾ stuivers 'moins 5 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers [sur le tout]'.
Note 5 Listed in M 296, folio 1r (Apophtegmata Erasmi 8⁰, f[euilles] 33, [price:] stuivers 5), and M 164, folio 1r.
