Note 2 | The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 102, gives the following details about 'Epithalamium Mamerani 4⁰': the wages for composing and printing the quires A-F are entered on 19 January 1566 and amount to 6 florins Carolus guilders 15 stuivers As each copy contains 6 sheets and as 500 copies were printed, 6 reams 10 'mains' of paper 'petit bastard' were used, which, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers per ream, came to 9 florins Carolus guilders 2 stuivers, bringing the overall costs to 15 florins Carolus guilders 17 stuivers |
Note 3 | The author took the initiative for the publication. He had the privilege put on his own name, and very likely induced Plantin to print his work by promising to take a large number of copies. In any case, he received in January 1566 400 copies for which he paid 18 florins Carolus guilders (Arch. 37, folio 31; Arch. 44, folio 8v). |
