Note 1 | Listed in M 296, folio 4 verso (Diurnale Rom. in 16⁰, a⁰ 1557, f[euilles] 17¾, [price:] stuivers 3), and M 164, folio 8 verso. Cf. also Rooses, M. Musée Plantin-Moretus, page 20, and Bohatta, no. 221 (referring to Rooses, but noting the edition under the date of 1556). No copy known. |
Note 2 | Rooses, op. cit., affirms that Plantin printed 1,000 copies for Joannes Steelsius, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 18 stuivers per ream. This refers to Arch. 38, folio 2 recto, where in a 'mémoire' (following an entry of 14 October 1557) is mentioned 'que Steelsius n'a payé que 28 stuivers pour la rame du journal et en a eu 1000 et i'en doibs avoir 35 stuivers de la rame et se monte à 33 rames parquoy me reste 11 florins Carolus guilders 11 stuivers pour lad[icte] impression'. |
Note 3 | The edition was probably already on the market in 1556 as, on 12 November 1556, 65 'Diurnale Romanum' were sold to Jan Bellart, who in 1557 took other copies as well: 3 on 5 April, 6 on 20 May, 3 on 3 June, and 20 on 17 July (Arch. 38, folio 5 bis verso). Other sales in 1557 included 12 copies to Jan Withagen on 17 July (Ibidem, folio 19 verso) and 1 to Jacques Bosschaert on 4 August (Ibidem, folio 28 verso). |
