Note 3 In the dedicatory, dated Antwerp, 1 February 1580, the author refers to a previous edition but without giving details ('Cum Colloquia nostra, discipuli charissimi, quae superioribus annis ex variis, iisque probatissimis quibusque auctoribus collegeram, typisque excudi curaveram…'), and continues to tell that, as no more copies of his work are available in the Antwerp bookshops, he had decided to update somewhat the text and to have it published again. He also explains that at his explicit instruction the pages with the Latin texts are printed only on one column, in order to facilitate the making of marginal notes by the students.
