Note 1 | 'Dialogue of the Dutch literary art or about the spelling and the characteristics of the Dutch language', edited by the Amsterdam Chamber of Rhetoric 'In Liefd Bloeyende', with a foreword by the famous Dutch philosopher and philologer Dirk Volkertszn Coornhert. In fact a grammar of the Dutch language in the form of a dialogue between G (to be identified with Gideon Fallet?) and R (Roemer Visscher?) compiled by the Chamber of Rhetoric (it seems especially by one of its members, Hendrik Laurensz Spieghel). Cf. Geschiedenis van de letterkunde der Nederlanden, III, 's Hertogenbosch, 1944, pages 44-50, 307, 395-396. |
Note 2 | In 1585 the Chamber published two complementary volumes, both printed by Plantin: Ruygh-bewerp vande Redenkaveling (see no. cp012356) and Kort Begrip des Redenkavelings (see no. cp010719). |
Note 3 | The copy in Leiden University Libraries is the one presented by Plantin on 2 January 1585 to the Leiden magistrate, together with some 30 of his other publications printed in Leiden in 1583-1584.
