Note 1 Interesting study on the technique of music, in which the author tries to prove that the crotchet is a consonance (pages 7-198); followed by some music-examples ([209-320]), introduced by an explanatory foreword to the reader (204-208).
Note 2 According to Biographie Nationale [de Belgique], a reprint, with some changes, of an edition issued in 1568, in Antwerp, under the title De consonantiis, sive harmoniis musicis contra vulgarem opinionem. In the dedicatory and other explanatory parts the author says nothing about an eventual previous publication, but the possibility cannot be ruled out that the dedicatory belongs in fact to an older edition.
Note 3 In a letter to Papius, 15 February 1581 (Corr., VI, no. 916), Plantin declared himself willing to publish the work that the canon would send him ('Interea vero si tuum opus miseris illico auspicabor Deo favente'), meaning very likely the De consonantiis….
Note 4 It is not sure if the printing was finished before the death of the author, but anyway copies were mailed before 18 November 1581 (letter to G. Tegnagel: Corr., VII, no. 962).
Note 5 Listed in M 296, folio 14v (Papius And. De consonantiis, in 8⁰, 1581, f[euilles] 14½, [price:] stuivers 6), and Ms. 321.
