Note 1 | Plantin shipped on 12 November 1573 to Spain 1,600 copies of a breviary in 8⁰ in 2 volumes (Arch. 22; price per copy and total value not noted in either Arch. 22 or Arch. 24). On 29 March 1574 he sent 4 bound copies of an in 8⁰ breviary in 2 volumes to the King and other Spanish dignitaries, followed on 19 April 1574 by another 500 copies (Arch. 22). At 1 florins Carolus guilders 12 stuivers per copy these 500 copies represented a value of 800 florins Carolus guilders (Arch. 24). It is not clear if Plantin made in 1573 - 1574 two different editions of an in 8⁰ breviary in two volumes, or if the 500 copies sent in April 1574 were the remnant of the edition of which he had already shipped 1,600 copies to Spain in November 1573. |
Note 2 | Not listed in M 164 and M 296. |
