Note 1First edition of a collection of critical studies on passages of classic Greek and Latin authors and of short studies on particular points of Roman archaeology. In chapter V is given the annotated text of two Latin poems, Pervigilium Veneris and Floridi de qualitate vitae (after the first edition, by P. Pithou, in 1577).
Note 2In the copy preserved in Leiden University Libraries, Lipsius has, on the dedicatory to Archduke Mathias, written the date of 18 August 1579.
Note 3The book was, in fact, already printed at the end of 1579. On 10-12 December of that year, Plantin told M.A. Muretus that, owing to the troubled situation, he did not risk to send him the complete text of Lipsius's Electorum liber; the remaining sheets would be mailed bit by bit (Corr., VI, no. 852; cf. the answer of Muretus, 8 February 1580: Suppl. Corr., no. 147).
Note 4Listed in M 296, folio 9v (Electorum libri, 8º, f[euilles] 12; [price:] stuivers 4).
