Online bibliographical references | |
Note 1 | Treatise on logic, based on Aristoteles's Organon. |
Note 2 | An edition was published, under the title Dialectica iuxta laudatissimum celeberrimae Lovaniensis Academiae morem ab ilio in gratiam morum discipulorum conscripta, in Louvain, by Hieronymus Wellens (typis Stephani Valerii) in 1561 (cf. Biographie Nationale [de Belgique], 9, Column 717). Similar editions were very likely also issued in the years 1552 (= date of the introduction 'A. Hunaeus discipulis suis S.P.') - 1566 by other publishers, as stated by Hunaeus in the introduction 'A. Hunaeus candido lectori S.D.' ('Quandoquidem his superioribus annis, amice Lector, dialectica nostra, diversorum typographorum opera variis ex locis in lucem produit…'). |
Note 3 | Plantin's edition of 1566 was revised by the author; in the introduction 'candido lectori' Hunaeus specified what was added and changed. |
Note 4 | According to the colophon the printing was finished on 18 February 1566. |
Note 5 | The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 97, gives the following details about 'Dialectica Hunei': the wages for composing and printing are entered at different dates (24 November - 8 December 1565: for 10 sheets, 25 florins Carolus guilders; 15 December - 31 December 1565: for the 3 sheets M, N, O, 7 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers; 12 - 19 January 1566 for the 6 sheets P-V, 15 florins Carolus guilders; 1 February 1566: for the 2 sheets X-Y 5 florins Carolus guilders; 5 - 23 February 1566: for 6½ sheets, of which 2½ remade, 16 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers) and amount to 69 florins Carolus guilders 'Imprimé à 1500 et y est entré 9½ rames à 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers la rame faict 19 £ 12 d [= 117 florins Carolus guilders 13 stuivers]'. The statement regarding the number of reams of paper used and the price charged cannot be exact: as 27½ sheets (including 2½ sheets 'refaictes') per copy were used, 82½ reams must have been used, which, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers per ream, amounted to 115 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers This brings the overall costs to 184 florins Carolus guilders 10 stuivers On the opposite page of this accounting note, however, is specified 'Dialectica Hunei couste 161 florins Carolus guilders 13 stuivers'. The note continues 'et est imprimé à 1500, dont en est deduicts (?) 200 à l'aucteur parquoy nous reste que 1300'. |
Note 6 | This last annotation means that Hunaeus must have received for author's fee 200 copies. He bought other copies as well: on 21 May 1566 he was charged 26 florins Carolus guilders 2½ stuivers for 95 'Dialectica Hunei 8º' (at 5½ stuivers per copy), delivered to him at Louvain by Plantin's Louvain colleague, Servatius Sassenus (Arch. 44, folio 68v). |
Note 7 | Listed in M 296, folio 4v (Dialectica Augustini Hunei in 8º, aº -, f[euilles] 25½, [price:] stuivers 5½), and M 164, folio 8v. |
