Edition information | |
Illustrations | Same engravings as in the 1585-edition, but now all given as hors-texte (the illustrations are missing in Museum Plantin-Moretus, R 14.6; Museum Plantin-Moretus, A 1217 lacks one great engraving and the printing is in general badly done, so that even on two plates the number in left upper-corner (I and L) is not reproduced; in the British Library-copy one large and 4 smaller engravings have disappeared). In the Monitio ad lectorem Lipsius warns his readers that he tolerated the insertion of these illustrations but that he did not want them and did not like them |
