Note 2The treatise was already published in Lyons in 1577 and 1580. The title-page of Plantin's edition, however, let suppose that this 1583-publication had been completely revised by the author.
Note 3Plantin was printing the work in October 1582 (letter to Camerarius, 16 October 1582 [Suppl. Corr., no. 176]: 'Sub praelis habemus libellum Botalli primarii nostri, iam Ducis medici de sanguinis missione etc.').
