| Note 2 | In the 'Ad lectorem' (pages 8-9) Papius explains that for the Greek text of Dionysius's Periegesis he followed largely the edition of Robertus Stephanus (Paris, 1547: Cf. Brunet, II, Column 729). |
| Note 3 | About the editing of the Priscianus part details are given in 'Andreas Papius lectori' (pages 11-112). Papius knew (and very likely followed to a great extent) the edition of Rhemnius Fannius, published by Guilielmus Morellus (Paris, 1557: cf. Brunet, II, Column 729), but he used also some other texts: two printed works from the library of Carolus Langius, with annotations by the scholar (one published at Venice in 1482, one published by Aldus), a (mutilated) manuscript from the Busleyden College at Louvain, and a manuscript of the Gembloux Abbey lent by Ludovicus Carrio. In collating the texts Papius was helped by a young friend, Antonius Hurnius. |

Corr., no. 114; cf. also a letter from Plantin to Camerarius, 13 January 1576 [Suppl. Corr., no. 121]: 'Dionysium de situ orbis et Museum ab Andrea Papio versos emendatos et notis illustratos…nuper edidi'). |
