Note 1 French edition with the same maps as in the Latin 1584-edition (enumerated in Koeman). The double sheets with the maps are numbered 1-112: to the contrary of the 1584 Latin-edition the sheets 101 and 102 have been used for the maps. The introductory and the last parts, as also the texts accompanying the 'old' maps, are the same as in the French 1581-edition.
Note 2 For printing the typographical texts Plantin charged Ortelius 177 florins Carolus guilders in June-July 1587 (Arch. 20, folio 263: 'Pour l'impression de son Theatrum en françois contenant folia 118, montant à rayson de 30 patt. [stuivers] la fueille'; text reproduced in Denucé, II, page 206).
Note 3 For the copies bought from Ortelius, Plantin had to pay 16 florins Carolus guilders
