Note 1 Historical exposition of the spreading of Christianity in Antiquity and Middle Ages. The ‘colophon atque appendix’ (pages 165-192), on the same subject, is in the form of a dedicatory to Fulgentius de Bragança, and dated 23 July 1572.
Note 2 Valerius Andreas, quoted by RDB, page 34, no. 1, notes an edition of 1563. This must be an error for 1573. Plantin’s 1572-publication seems to have been the editio princeps (as already noted by RDB, pages 140-141 [1573, no. 21]).
Note 3 A copy of the ‘Theatrum conversionis gentium’ was mailed to Gilbert d’Oignies, Bishop of Tournai, on 22 December 1572 (Corr., III, no. 447).
Note 4 Listed in M 296, folio 18v (Theatrum Conversionis Gentium P. Alostani, 8⁰, A⁰ —, f[euilles] —, [price:] stuivers 3).
