Ad Ioannem Moronum cardinalem', etc. The prelates to whom the poems are dedicated, include, besides the two already quoted: Antonius Perenottius Granvellanus, cardinal; Ioannes Franciscus Gambara, cardinal; Marcus Antonius Amulius, cardinal; Antonius Helius, patriarcha Hierosolymitanus; Gherardus [de Groesbeeck], episcopus Leodiensis; Hieronymus Garimbertus, episcopus Gallesanus; Nicolaus Ormanettus, episcopus Patavinus; Laevinus Torrentius, archidiaconus Leodiensis; Thomas Aldobrandinus. A last poem is titled 'Ad Aurelium Portulacam in patriam euntem'; b) A poem by Prosper Martinengus Brixianus 'In Virginem Mariam' (39-40); c) Religious poems by Hippolytus Capilupus Mantuanus (41-49); d) Religious poems by M. Antonius Muretus (49-51); e) Religious poems by I. Franciscus Ferrarius Mutinensis (52-54). |
Note 2 | Gambara's Ad Deum gratiarum actio pro victoria de Turcis habita (see following no.), formally presented as a separate edition, forms in fact part of the Precationes ad Deum, and was normally sold together with it. |
Again, however, there was some delay owing to the negligence of the censor and of the 'secretaire' in charge of the privileges (letter from Plantin to Granvelle, 26 April 1572: Corr., II, no. 328). Something went also amiss with the copies to be forwarded to Granvelle and the author. In his letter of 5 December 1573 (Corr., IV, no. 499), Plantin explains to de Goneville, the agent of Cardinal Granvelle, that on 12 June 1573 he had entrusted to the agent of a transport-firm a bale of books to be delivered to Cardinal Granvelle at Naples. Having nothing more heard about this consignment (and the bill included), the typographer wrote this new letter. |
Note 4 | A copy was mailed to de Çayas on 14 November 1572 (Corr., III, no. 432, page 220). |

Anno 1572, f[euilles] -, [price:] stuivers 5½ [= probably an error for 2½]), and folio 14v (Poemata Laurentii Gambara in 4º, 1572, f[euilles] 9 [i.e. the 7 sheets of the Precationes ad Deum and the 2 sheets of the Ad Deum gratiarum actio pro victoria de Turcis habita], [price:] stuivers 2½). |
