Note 1 Ruelens-de Backer, page 258 (1583, no. 25), referring to Nicéron, X, 341, mentions: 'Alciati emblemata cum comment. Claudii Minoi Divionensi. Antverpiae, ex off. Christ. Plantini. M.D.LXXXIII. 1 vol. in-16⁰'. Duplessis, G. Les livres à gravures du XVIe siècle. Les Emblèmes d'Alciat, no. 84, lists also, without giving references: 'Alciati emblemata cum comment. Claudii Minois Divionensis. Antverpiæ, ex. off. Christ. Plantini. Anvers. M.D.LXXXIII. In-16'. Green, H. Andrea Alciati and his Books of Emblems, no. 105, also quotes this edition, referring to Ruelens-de Backer Niceron, and two other bibliographies, and affirming there is a copy in the Besançon library. In fact, the director of the Municipal Library of Besançon was so kind to inform us that the copy in his collection is dated 1584, no. 1583. Ruelens-de Backer, Duplessis, and Green must have confounded with the 1584-edition.
