Note 1 | Contains: Notes on the Syriac alphabet (pages [3-8]), followed by prayers in Syriac (and in Syriac type) with in juxtaposition the Latin translation and underneath the transcription in Hebrew type (pages 1-23). |
Note 2 | The notes on the Syriac alphabet are compiled from the Elementa linguae Syriacae of Ferdinand Widmanstadius (first edition: Vienna, 1555), to which Guido Fabricius Boderianus (Guy Le Fèvre de la Boderie) added, as an exercise, a series of prayers in Syriac (with Hebrew transcription and Latin translation) from an old Syriac manuscript, he had received from Plantin, having been sent to the typographer from Cologne by Daniel Bombergus (Van Bomberghen). He had it published, at the urging of specialists of the Louvain University, for the use by students. This is explained by Le Fèvre in the dedicatory of his publication of Severus, De ritibus baptismi (a Syriac text, included in the Cologne-manuscript), issued in the same year 1572 (cf. for more details, cp010360).
