Note 1 Edition of two treatises by or attributed to Albertus Magnus: Enchiridion Alberti Magni de virtutibus animae veris et perfectis, quod et paradisus animae dicitur and De adherendo Deo, nudato intellectu, et affectu, et ultima et summa perfectione hominis, quantum in hac vita possibile est.
Note 2 The publication was in fact an initiative of Plantin's Antwerp colleague, Antonius Tilens. And not to Plantin but to Tilens was granted the privilege of 3 February 1564 (probably o.s. = 1565).
Note 3 Plantin's cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 73 verso, gives interesting details: the wages for composing and printing were paid from 17 March till 14 April 1565, and amount to 12 florins Carolus guilders 18 stuivers Plantin, instead of noting the reams of paper used and their value, continues 'J'ay imprimé aussi cestuyci comme Chrisost. De Virginis [Joannes Chrysostomos, De Virginis] ayant équipolé la faceon pour le papier. A compte le 4 Juin 1565'. What this means is explained immediately above in Arch. 4, folio 73 verso, under the cost-accounting note of Joannes Chrysostomus, De Virginis: for both editions the paper ('carré petit') had been supplied by A. Tilens. The price of this paper was considered to be the equivalent of the wages paid by Plantin to his compositors and printers. Consequently, of the 1,250 copies printed of each edition, half were ceded to Tilens as his part in the enterprise, the other half retained by Plantin. A note, scribbled in the margin, makes it clear that, as far as the Albertus Magnus edition was concerned, Plantin's part consisted of 610 copies.
Note 4 Listed in M 296, folio 1 recto (Alberti Magni Paradisus animȩ, 16⁰, f[euilles] 7, [price:] 1¼ stuivers), and M 164, folio 1 recto.
