Note 1 | Only copies with the Leiden imprint have been preserved. It may, however, be taken for granted that, as for practically all the works of Lipsius printed in the Officina Plantiniana in Leiden between 1583-1589, a number of copies of the edition received a title-page with Plantin's Antwerp imprint. In fact, in M 321, folio 16r, and M 296, folio 9v, the work is listed under the 'Plantinian' editions (8º, f[euilles] 11, [price:] stuivers 3). |
Note 2 | The manuscript was forwarded to the printer about April 1588 and printed in June. It was on sale at the September Fair of Frankfurt in that year (cf. J. Ruysschaert, Juste Lipse et les Annales de Tacite, page 13). Part of the edition had already reached Plantin in Antwerp in July 1588, as he could send on the 14th of that month a copy to N. Oudartius (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1386). |
Note 3 | Some of the material used for these Curae secundae was sent to Lipsius by two young French scholars, Josias Mercier and Jerôme Groslot. Cf.J. Ruysschaert, Juste Lipse et les Annales de Tacite, pages 40-41. |
