Note 1 | Latin translation of the Greek 'Historiae' of Herodianus by the Italian humanist Angelus Politianus, finished in May 1493. |
Note 2 | The Latin translation was first printed in 1498, as part of the Omnia Opera Angeli Politiani, Venice, Aldus Manutius. The Greek text and the Latin translation were published in the Xenophontis omissa, Venice, Aldus Manutius, 1503, and again in a separate edition in 1524, Venice, In aedibus Aldi et And. Asulani soc. Plantin's edition must be a reprint of one of these publications. |
Note 3 | The cost-accounting note in Arch. 4, folio 108, gives the following details about 'Herodianus 16º,: the wages for composing and printing quires A-H (at 2 florins Carolus guilders 7 stuivers per sheet and the 'format' 6 stuivers) are noted on 22 June 1566 for 9 florins Carolus guilders 14 stuivers; the wages for quires I-P are entered, at an unspecified date, for 8 florins Carolus guilders 4 stuivers; together for composing and printing 17 florins Carolus guilders 18 stuivers 1,500 copies were printed. At 7½ sheets per copy, 23 reams of paper 'petit carré' were used, which, at 1 florins Carolus guilders 8 stuivers per ream, came to 32 florins Carolus guilders, bringing the overall costs to 49 florins Carolus guilders 18 stuivers |
