Note 1 | Treatise on dialectics in 4 'books'. |
Note 2 | In his letter of 7 December 1588 to the author Plantin acknowledges having received the manuscript some weeks ago; he will immediately insert in the text at the appropriate place what Sanderson had requested in his letter of 1 December. Being busy for other publishers, he could, however, not promise to start printing the work in the coming semester. Moreover, if Bogardus (bookseller in Douai) or any other typographer wishes to publish the work, he will immediately send back the copy (Corr., VIII-IX, no. 1419). Sandersonus preferred to remain with Plantin. |
Note 3 | The work was practically finished at the death of Plantin. Jan Moretus told Sandersonus in a letter of 15-23 June 1589 that it would be easy to print the 'errata' communicated by the author (which was actually done on page [190]), but that, owing to the sickness of Plantin, the index of Sandersonus's work had been lost in the press. Moretus asked Sandersonus to consider the problem, and, if he thought it necessary, to forward a copy of the index (Ibidem, no. 1473). Sandersonus must have thought that it was not worthwhile to wait longer: the edition does not include an index. |
Note 4 | Listed in M 296, folio 4v (Dialectica Jo. Sandersoni, 1589, f[euilles] 12, [price:] stuivers 4), and M 321. |
