Note 2 | According to the colophon the printing was finished not in 1579 but in 1580. In fact, the publication was probably finished at the end of 1579 as in his letter to Buyssetius, 10 December 1579, Plantin lists ‘Aeschilus cum notis Guillelmi Canteri Graece 16⁰’ among the works he had already printed (Corr., VI, no. 81, page 114). |
Note 3 | In a letter of 12-13 September 1581 Plantin promises Fulvius Ursinus to include the Sophocles among the works he will mail to the Roman scholar at the earliest occasion (Corr., VI, no. 942). |
