Note 1 Printed in three parts, presented formally as three publications, but in fact forming but one edition. The order is given by the table in part 1: a) Part 1: the first part of the Secrets of Alexis Piemontois, divided in six books; b) Part 2: Secrets, ou receptes souveraines, bien experimentées et approuvées par divers auteurs, divided in Secrets, ou receptes de divers auteurs (folios 2 recto-35 recto) and…receptes touchant le maniement de divers metaus (folios 35 recto-56 recto); c) Part 3: 2nd part of the Secrets of Alexis Piemontois, divided in six books.
Note 2 Compared with the 1559-edition, the order has been changed: part 3 has became part 2, and part 2 figures now as part 3. Parts 1 and 2 are reprinted from the 1559-edition; part 3 is a re-arrangement of part 2 of 1559.
Note 3 The comment on the dubious authenticity of the second volume of the Secrets of Alexis Piemontois has been replaced by a far more succinct and carefully worded text: 'Tu as d'avantage icy la seconde partie du mesme Auteur nouvellement traduite d'une fidélité non doutable'.
Note 4 12 copies were sold, at 5 stuivers a piece, to Pierre du Pré on 28 April 1561 (Arch. 36, folio 5 verso).
Note 5 A number of copies received a title-page with the imprint of the Parisian bookseller, Martin le Jeune (see following no.).
Note 6 Listed in M 296, folio 18 recto ([Secrets d'Alexis. In 8⁰] A⁰ 1561, f[euilles] 29½).
