Description |
An exploration of the religious, legal and social elements of the Jewish wedding in Rome, principally through 18th–19th-century Roman ketubbot. These ornate legal documents, which frequently carry biblical scenes and figures, family crests, and national symbols, not only united the couple according to Jewish law, but also conveyed their families’ status and eventually, freedom and social equality, under the Napoleonic and Italian governments. No itemized listing. |
