The exhibition was divided between four of the city’s district houses, each of which displayed photographs dedicated to a specific theme: Places of Prayer (Maison de Quartier Rossignol), Craftsmanship (Maison de Quartier Willems), Women (Maison de Quartier Midi), and the Mellah and Community Life (Mason de Quartier Haren). The exhibition was presented by the Musée Juif de Belgique and the Centre de la Culture Judéo-Marocaine (CCJM), in partnership with the district houses of the City of Brussels. |

100 unpublished photographs taken by collector and photographer Zeyde Shulmann in the early 1950’s to immortalize the history of Moroccan Jewry. Many of the photographs focus on the activities and lives of Jewish women, showing their costumes, dances, jewelry and crafts in various Moroccan cities. Exhibition manual includes an overview of the exhibition, a brief biography of the photographer, a chronology of Moroccan Jewish history, and five photographs which exemplify specific themes highlighted in the exhibition: Jewish/Muslim co-existence during religious rites; prayer among Jews and Muslims; ritual slaughter among Jews and Muslims; family, religion and transmission; jewelry and ornaments worn by Jewish and Berber women.
