The story of the Venetian Ghetto, its internal growth, architecture, social makeup, crafts and trades, material life, and the relations between the Jewish minority and the rest of the city, seen against the background of relations with other Jewish settlements in Europe and the Mediterranean basin. Exhibition in 11 rooms, in chronologically thematic sections, each with extensive introductory text and several related catalog essays, addressing such topics as: Jewish publishing in Venice (Giulio Busi), the architecture of the Ghetto (David Cassuto), Synagogues, Jewish culture and women, Shylock (Shaul Bassi), Jewish patronage during the Emancipation process (Martina Massaro), etc. Numerous historical maps and blueprints detailing the region and individual buildings. Every exhibit pictured. Detailed historical entries. 185 items. |
