An exhibition on the meaning and value of repetition in art, inspired by philosopher Gilles Deleuze’s iconic book, Difference and Repetition. Multiples from the Museum’s collection (of spice towers, Torah binders, ketubbot, ancient figurines, etc.) were juxtaposed with contemporary artworks that explore ideas of difference within repetition, and visually relate to the older pieces. Introductory essay by curators Susan L. Braunstein and Jens Hoffmann explicates Deleuze’s original texts, and encourages viewers to discover the rich messages contained in repetition and difference, and to look differently and repeatedly at their own existence.
