Description |
Newspapers, journals and books printed by Jews in or near Displaced Persons Camps in Germany. These works were collected by the Berlin State Library beginning in 2009 as part of a new initiative to preserve publications from the DP camps. Printed in Hebrew and Yiddish on low quality paper, the volumes reveal the fears, hopes and interests of the Survivors during this largely-unstudied period of transition, who, while awaiting their emigration, were confronted for the first time with the massive scale of the Holocaust. Material presented in four sections, including Education and Emigration, and Religion and Tradition. Detailed entries for 24 items. |
