A sequel to the original exhibition Verbum Domini [#2095], continuing with the story of the Bible’s dissemination throughout the world. Most exhibits were from the Green Family Collection, with additional items from the Vatican Library and other collections. 10 chapters recount the Bible’s transmission to various countries and regions, the impact of the printing press on its dissemination, and the abundance of languages into which it has been translated. Chapter 3 addresses the spread of the Jewish and Christian faiths to China. Chapter 7 describes “The Judeo-Christian Tradition in Central and Eastern Europe”. Exhibits included Hebrew books and manuscripts, and a selection of European Jewish ceremonial objects. Extensive entries. 178 items. |
