Description |
A wide variety of items gifted to the Museum, exhibited with their personal histories and the stories of those who preserved them. Exhibition in seven sections, each representing a facet of Polish Jewish identity and experience: 1. The Book (religious and secular), 2. Emigration, Journey, Wandering (objects that were orphaned, entrusted to others, or taken out of Poland with their owners), 3. Signs of an Absent Present (items, including ceremonial objects, that were kept, hidden or salvaged in the Jews’ absence), 4. Personal Mementos, Family Mementos, “Objects with their Own Narratives” (items donated by their owners), 5. Motherland (objects that express the owner’s attachment and dedication to Poland or Israel), 6. Art (created by Jews or with Jews in mind), 7. Hiding (items that were hidden by Jews, or testify to their life in hiding). Each section was accompanied by a contemporary Polish artwork that echoes its central theme. Introductory essays on the exhibited gifts (Judyta Pawlak) and the contemporary works exhibited with them (Wojciech Leder). Descriptive entries. 222 items. |
