Georgian Jewish culture as reflected through paintings, graphic arts, photography, national costume, embroidery, ceremonial and domestic objects. A considerable number of these items are on exhibit for the first time. With numerous works illustrating Jewish individuals and customs, including those by Georgia’s first Jewish painter, Shalom Koboshvili (1876–1941), Georgian painter David Gvelesiani (1890–1949), and ethnographic photographer Dmitri Ermakov. The exhibition celebrated the 80th anniversary of the David Baazov History Museum of Georgian Jews, the collections of which are currently housed within the Georgian National Museum’s various institutions. |
