A book produced in coordination with the exhibition “Souvenir, Talisman, Toy”, examining the popularity and meaning of Polish-made figurines of Jews from the perspectives of those who own, sell, make, or otherwise encounter them. Introduction by Erica Lehrer. Individual sections on iconographic themes and contexts: Jews with money, sacred and profane Jews, Jewish puppet figures, Jewish figurines sold on Easter Monday, the revival of Jewish wooden figurines, Jewish suffering, individual carvers, figurines outside of Poland, and visitors’ reactions.
