Description |
An unprecedented public presentation of the Vatican Library and its holdings, intended to counter the aura of mysteriousness and inaccessibility that has historically surrounded this institution. In addition to precious illuminated manuscripts (mostly Christian), books and documents, the exhibition also presented tools that have been used in the distant past and recent present for the restoration and renovation of books and buildings. In-depth essays on the history of the Library, its manuscripts, printed material, drawings and prints, and coins and medals. Two Jewish objects were featured: an 11th–12th C Bible (C.26, p. 186), and a Bomberg Talmud (D.11, p. 205). Detailed descriptive entries. 230 items. |
