The rich cultural heritage of Georgian Jewry, presented through paintings, photographs, religious and domestic items, and drawings of national clothing. Central to this presentation were the works of Georgia’s first Jewish painter, Shalom Koboshvili (1876–1941), and Georgian painter David Gvelesiani (1890–1949), which reflect the history, costume and life of Georgian Jews. All of these items belong to the Georgian Jews History and Ethnography Museum, the collections of which are now preserved in the Georgian National Museum, The National Manuscripts Centre and the Mtskheta Museum. Archaeological items relating to the history of Georgian Jewry, and belonging to the Georgian National Museum, supplement this material. Brief introduction. Basic entries. 128 items. |
Description |
The exhibit was presented as part of a larger international project “Holy Land and Georgia”, organized by the Jerusalem Ben Tsvi Institute, which aimed at further promoting cultural collaboration between Israel and Georgia. |
