Description

An attempt to foster dialogue and mutual respect by highlighting the commercial, diplomatic and socio-cultural exchange and intercultural dialogue that has taken place between Morocco and Europe (especially in Belgium), and the mutual fascination that these two regions have had with one another over the course of several hundred years. 7 essays on aspects of this relationship in different periods are explored through traces left by diplomats and travelers, painters, writers, artisans, etc., and illustrated by a wealth of visual material including paintings, engravings, metalwork, costumes, and photographs. Jewish items featured throughout (see pp. 16, 93, 119, 131, 138, 163–165, 171 & 172). The concept of Moroccan identity as both open to the world and yet specific unto itself, was conveyed in both the cultural/artistic and commercial spheres. No itemized listing.
