Tel Aviv Museum of Art (16 June–10 October 2009)

A re-examination of the Berlin 1907 “Exhibition of Jewish Artists” (#19), and the divergent, contradictory messages it conveyed. The current exhibition attempted to reevaluate, from a distance of some 100 years, the contribution of these artists to modern art in general, and answer what the Berlin exhibition and other exhibitions in Europe at the time sought to define as “Jewish identity” in art. Foreword by Mordechai Omer. In-depth essay on the Berlin Exhibition, its artists, themes and conclusions, by Batsheva Goldman Ida. Reprint of the original exhibition catalog, and list of works exhibited. Exhibits included Judaica objects, most of which are found in section III (Historical-crafts). Basic entries. 266 items.
