Description |
Antique, modern and contemporary maps of the Holy Land, juxtaposed with objects of material culture and the works of contemporary Israeli- and Palestinian-born women artists. The maps are seen as socially-manufactured objects that have less to do with depicting a natural landscape and more with conveying their makers’ ideas about national identity, cultural boundaries, place, and displacement. Title essay by Rhoda Rosen. 19 highlights from the Museum’s map collection pictured and described (Ilana Segal). No itemized listing. |
Description |
The exhibition was closed in June 2008, one month after its opening, due to strong Jewish communal objections to its contents. |
