Description

The first in a series of eight exhibitions inaugurating the Jewish Museum Munich. Collecting Images [01]–[08] explored the history of collecting Judaica from different perspectives and periods (from the Renaissance through the modern period), and introduced prominent Jewish collectors from Munich. The current show served as a prelude to the others, focusing on the princely collectors of the 16th C: the inclusion of Jewish objects in Albrecht V’s cabinet of art (which was reconstructed in the exhibition), the preservation of medieval Hebrew manuscripts in the Bavarian State Library, and the collecting of Jewish objects by the Bavarian National Museum. Historical essay. 26 items.
